2023 James Beard Award Dessert Nominees

Last week was the James Beard Foundation Awards ceremony in Chicago. Some of my favorite dessert nominees:

  • La Casita Bakery
  • Kuluntu Bakery
  • Ellen Yin representing High Street Hospitality Group (Fork, a.kitchen + bar, High Street, and others)

While none of these bakeries took home the prize, there are ways to use award nominations to boost your business and reputation.

Types of Awards

Whether or not you ever get nominated for a prestigious James Beard Foundation award, you might get nominated for local awards or round-up lists. Some examples:

Why does PR matter?

  1. Improves credibility and reputation. Customers are more likely to trust you if you’ve been reviewed by credible media outlets.
  2. Increases brand awareness and visibility. Backlinks are incredibly helpful in boosting your SEO, so people can find you online.
  3. Attracts new employees and investors. Whether your challenges are related to labor or finances, PR can help attract the right people and partners.

How can you share news articles?

  1. Email your newsletter subscribers. Marketing newsletters are not always about selling. Use your email service provider to share the latest news and awards.Oliboli Donuts voted Best of the Southland at the LA Times
  2. Create a press page on your website. Post links to all news articles and awards on your website. Make it easy for people to find the articles and trust your business.
  3. Share on social media. Link to media articles in your Instagram stories, add text in your bio, create a highlight for all PR, or share the news with a Reel or Tik Tok video.
  4. Post on Google Business Profile. Follow Starship Bagel’s lead:Google Business Profile post for Starship Bagels Best of Dallas Observer
