MEET AMANDA

First off, who knew there were so many donut bloggers from Boston?! Amanda was born and raised in Beantown and ‘grams under the handle @donuthabit. You can typically find her in Boston or Miami, sometimes with her dog, but always with fierce nails.

Check out our fun Q&A session below, and stay tuned for future interviews each Wednesday.

I’m 27 years old and I live in Boston, MA where I was born and raised! I went to Emerson College for Broadcast Journalism and my jobs all included some type of social media marketing, which I fell in love with. So now I work as the Marketing Manager for a restaurant in downtown Boston. I have a dog named Luca who I am more than obsessed with. He’s a five-year-old Goldendoodle!

My poor dog.... 🤣

I have always loved sweets. I’ve loved ice cream since I was a kid. Chocolate, desserts, donuts, you name it. I always feel like you HAVE to finish a meal with some sort of dessert.

I started Donut Habit in the summer of 2017. I just figured that I love donuts so much, and I always enjoy following food bloggers, why not try it myself? And maybe I’d get a free donut here and there!

As for the name, I have to give all the credit to my boyfriend. I wanted something without symbols or numbers. I tried about four or five different names that were all taken on Instagram and he suggested Donut Habit and it worked!

The perfect donut is so hard to describe! I love a good cake donut, but not crumbly. Moist and tasty. With frosting or glaze that doesn’t taste too sugary or “fake.”

The Salty Donut Maple Bacon

My favorite donut is from The Salty Donut in Miami, FL. Their Brown Butter & Salt donut is literally the perfect donut that I described above. It’s tasty and it literally melts in your mouth.

My favorite in the Boston area has to be Kane’s Donuts or Union Square Donuts. I also have to give a shoutout to Boston Common Coffee who only has donuts on Thursdays and they’ve NEVER disappointed me.

Duck Donuts (Philly/DMV/Carolinas/Houston/San Antonio), Five Daughters Bakery (Nashville)*, Sidecar Donuts (California), the Ohio Donut Trail! There’s just so many to name. I literally look for a donut shop every time I travel.

*Editor’s Note: Since our interview, Amanda made it down to Nashville for FDB’s infamous 100 Layer Donut:

I was in Miami and got the Salty Donut delivered via UberEats (my new favorite thing) while I sat poolside. 😎

I’ve definitely made some foodie friends! I’ve been to different donut events and met people that have their own foodgrams or follow me! The coolest thing was passing out my business card at a donut event and having someone say, “oh, you’re Donut Habit? I already follow you!”

I’ve gotten some free donuts at donut shops by mentioning my Instagram. I’ve also gotten LOTS of donut paraphernalia from friends who know of my obsession. Some things include: donut pajamas, donut sunglasses, donut scented candles, donut ruler, donut mouse pad, donut loofah… the list goes on! I love it.

Of course, I would love it if I could monetize off this Instagram eventually, but I’m really doing it for fun more than anything right now!

Thanks! I usually give out my business card to new donut shops that I try. I have passed it out at networking events or donut events. I also pass it out at my job (when I waitress there — shameless self-promotion!). Plus, I give them to friends to pass out. This interview is definitely a cool opportunity!

I use an iPhone 8+. I edit with the Photoshop app on my phone or just use Instagram, but I usually play with brightness, contrast, etc rather than just picking a filter. All photos are taken by me unless otherwise specified!

Hmmmm I’m not very good at sharing!! To seriously answer the question and not to get all emotional on you, I’d definitely break the rules and share a donut with my dad. He passed away when I was young and we used to share ice cream together! But if I were to choose a celebrity, I’d say maybe Chrissy Teigen because she’s funny and she loves food… or Carrie Underwood because I just love her.

I am a total GRANDMA when it comes to going out. I am either working, going to barre class, hanging with my dog, laying in my bed or reading. I’m not a total bore, I do go out with friends but I am definitely more of a homebody.

  • Yeast vs. Cake
  • Coffee vs. Tea (Iced)
  • Vanilla vs. Chocolate
  • Ranch on Anything: Blue cheese, all the way!
  • Thin Crust vs. Deep Dish
  • Favorite City to Visit: Miami to see my boyfriend, but I’ve been to Scottsdale/Sedona, Arizona once and it still has my heart.
  • Favorite Movie: Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Couples Retreat, Blended (a “kids” movie but so funny honestly)
  • Instagram account you’re loving right now: @arielle is super funny. I love following @thenaughtyfork Miami food blogger.

I’m grateful for the new job opportunity I took as the Marketing Manager at the restaurant. I was working a day job that I didn’t like at all and I was soooo unhappy, but I was just doing it to make a living. This job turned things around mentally and professionally!

In the next six months, I’m looking forward to traveling more and trying new donut shops!

I’m always open to new recommendations and happy to give mine to others!
