Missed out on last month's museum of donuts pop-up?

AUGUST 2018: Austin food and travel blogger @atasteofkoko officially launched her own clothing line — Shop Koko — and to celebrate, she gathered the top donut shops in town. If you missed out on the fun, I’m here to recap the one-day pop-up event.

Let it be known that my husband offered to drive to Austin and to hold donuts in the air as I snapped way too many photos. I owe ya, Mike!

Here are my takeaways from the event:

  1. Good bang for your buck.
    • The $35 ticket price included a donut boobie tee (male/female versions), 1-2 samples from each of the 6 donut stands, 1 boozy iced latte, photo opps, and a swag bag. I’d say that’s equivalent to a nice brunch investment.
    • The third session only set you back $15. Ticket only included 1 sample (while supplies lasted) and access to the photo experience areas.
  2. Super cute photo installations.
    • This museum was certainly Instagram-friendly, from the decorated staircase, to the donut balloons, to the donut pool with Boomerang station, and wall with mini donuts.
  3. Equally adorable t-shirts. Jane’s first t-shirt collection included a donut boobie tee, a red shirt labeled FRIES, and a yellow shirt labeled QUESO. Basically, all the essentials. All were very soft, although they do run a bit on the small side. Disclaimer: My additional t-shirts were gifted.
  4. It was fun to taste all the donuts at once!
    • I was pleasantly surprised by Hank’s flower donut (light/fluffy).
    • First time trying Bougie’s Doughnuts. I liked their buttercream pistachio, although it tastes much different than my fave from Hypnotic Donuts.
    • Gourdough’s flavors were simple, but they were absolutely delicious. They even parked their trailer outside to fry fresh ones all day.
  5. Tons of volunteers to help. Jane from @atasteofkoko assembled a great crew to assist with check-in, take attendees’ photos, and even hold the donut tire swing.

I hope @atasteofkoko brings the event back next year! I’d recommend a larger space for a bit more breathing room, and a couple extra donut vendors. I’m thinking:

P.S. I wanna know: Have you been to a donut festival before?
