Friday, 6/1 is National Donut Day!
True or false: National Donut Day was founded by the National Donut Council for financial gain.
Answer: False
I don’t believe there even is a National Donut Council, by the way, but the story behind this day is actually pretty sweet (pun intended). The annual holiday started in 1938 as a fundraiser for Chicago’s Salvation Army. Their goal was to help those in need during the Great Depression, and to honor the Salvation Army “Lassies” of WWI, who had the coolest job of serving donuts to soldiers. Fast forward to 2018. Americans are still celebrating, regardless of whether they prefer ‘donut’ or ‘doughnut.’ While donut deals can be found all across the country today, I’ve gathered the top deals in North Texas.

The best way to view it is by clicking on the open square in the top right corner, and it will open in your own Google Maps app. Download the My Maps Android app or regular Google Maps iPhone app. If you have a Google account, you can even save the map and make your own notes.
