Social media might seem like another “to do” these days.

And let’s face it, Instagram Stories and Tik Tok videos and captions and hashtags can be a huge time suck…if you don’t know what you’re doing.

No doubt COVID-19 has changed the way we consume information, entertain ourselves, and stay connected. Now is actually the time to double down on your social media efforts to sell food (or anything, for that matter). Here’s why:

  • Between 46% and 51% of US adults were using social media more since the outbreak began. (Harris Poll)
  • Diners in Gen Z have never been to a restaurant without a phone in hand. Splitting checks, previewing the menu on social media, ordering ahead, reading reviews, and even posting their own reviews in real-time is the norm. (Upserve)
  • Diners use the internet to find food: 93% of people view menus online before dining out; 73% of consumers trust a local business more after reading positive reviews; 80% of consumers lose trust in a business if their online information is inaccurate. (SinglePlatform)

The goal is not for you to become a social media ninja. It’s to understand the value of online marketing in today’s world, and know enough to be dangerous so you can DIY or delegate.

Here’s what you’ll find inside this toolkit:

About Rory

I’m a donut blogger turned restaurant coach and event organizer. I help busy donut shop and bakery owners create compelling marketing so that they can turn followers into customers. I also connect donut lovers with the best artisan donuts across the country. Here in Texas I co-host the Dallas Donut Fest (just like everyone else we had to cancel our event back in March this year). Given the times, I’m doing everything I can to help all independently-owned restaurants pivot to new business models and new technology in order to survive.
