When you think Jarams, you probably think Cronuts. But did you know they offer so much more? From crème brûlée to cream cheese and fruits to kolaches to non-designer flavors, there’s a little bit of everything here. Jarams also offers “specially custom-designed donuts with birthday messages, seasonal decorations, and company logos.” We took a trip to North Dallas to see if the Dallas Observer got their glowing review right.

JARAMS DONUTS REVIEW

Father and daughter team Michael and Blair Ji opened Jarams back in February 2012. The store is in an unassuming strip mall in North Dallas, practically in the suburb of Plano. Like many others, we were really drawn to Jarams for their croissant donuts. Could they live up to the Cronut hype (yes, it’s been trademarked) created by Dominique Ansel’s bakery in NYC?

PROS:

Luckily, Jarams did not disappoint in the croissant donut department. We sampled the glazed, Nutella with strawberries, and PB&J. The woman behind the register also threw in some mini croissant donut holes with custard and sugar for free. Who are we to turn down extra donuts??

We then added a cream cheese donut with mixed berries, a crème brûlée, and a seasonal pumpkin cake for good measure. Trust us, these beauties taste as good as they look:

CONS:

Jarams is far to get to from the western part of the metroplex, and some of the donuts are a bit pricier than the average mom-and-pop shop…but hey, these donuts are far from average.

One small gripe: since many of the flavors contain dairy, they won’t last too long. Not a problem when you eat them all in one sitting though!

FINAL THOUGHTS:

The preparation that goes into making croissant donuts is time-consuming and labor-intensive, but totally worthwhile. While the funky flavors were great, we preferred the plain glazed croissant the best. Next time we’re dying to try the funnel cake donuts and new seasonal flavors like pumpkin cookie butter.
