UPDATED AUGUST 2018: Feeling funky? Look no further than FunkyTown Donuts, a family-owned and operated gourmet donut shop based in Fort Worth. Here you’ll find fresh ingredients, homemade dough, and unique flavors. FunkyTown was the first gourmet donut shop in Fort Worth, opening its doors in May 2016. FUNKYTOWN DONUTS REVIEW

Co-owner Brandon Moors brought his passion for dessert, along with a food and catering background, to the FunkyTown concept. His wife and co-owner, Angie, works as the General Manager of the Ashton Depot Catering and Events, but also manages FunkyTown’s social media presence. Brandon’s mom, Ruth, serves as CFO and part-time kitchen helper. Did we mention Brandon’s dad is a former police officer? We’re pretty sure this is the perfect family to get involved in the donut business.

While small, the shop is decorated with quirky touches like the “Welcome to Funky Town” mural and metal donut menu. More often than not, you can find Brandon in the kitchen with a hands-on and fun approach to management.

So many unique flavors to choose from! On our many visits to FunkyTown we’ve been able to sample close to the entire menu:

The plain glazed donut is a surprising standout, as is the Main Squeeze cake donut and strawberry shortcake. The fritters are absolutely delicious.

While we can’t comment on the quality of the gluten-free and vegan donuts, we can report that those gourmet options are available on Wednesdays and Sundays. Custom orders, catering/wedding requests, and birthday letters are also available with advanced notice.

As for the new location, there’s a full coffee bar, along with wine and beer options. Pro tip: Fort Worth has an open container policy, which means you can take your food and alcohol out on the streets!

CONS:

FunkyTown’s original location is quite small, and despite the neon purple sign upgrade, it can be tricky to find. Look for a red building near the corner of 8th Ave. and Rosedale. It’s right next to the Jimmy John’s.

Some donuts have a super sweet aftertaste.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

Congrats to the Moors family for filling a gourmet gap in the local market. We also dig their charitable contributions to the community
